We are a cycling club established in 1949 and based in Birdwell, an ex-coalmining village near Barnsley in the South Yorkshire area of the UK. Our membership catchment area extends across Barnsley, Sheffield and Rotherham.

Club members participate in a various competitive cycling disciplines... Time Trialling, Road Racing and Triathlon. Throughout the year there are training rides at the weekends and, in the summer, on mid-week evenings too.  Time Trials, Youth League Circuit Races and Audax rides (designed to be testing for all but not really comptetitive) are organised by members of the club.  On the non-competitive side of cycling, there are 'club-run' rides each Sunday and most Wednesdays - non-members are welcome to join us on these: just make contact and we'll advise.

Social events go beyond the Friday get-togethers at the clubroom and the annual evening out for a meal and a prize presentation. Quiz nights are organised, and visits to the bowling alley and 'the dogs' also take place.

The South Yorkshire village of Birdwell is situated south of Barnsley and north/east of various parts of Sheffield, handily situated for access to the Pennine hills, the Lincolnshire levels and the cycling conditions inherent to each.

In addition, while the locality is on the edges of traditional industrial and coal-mining areas, there is plenty of countryside all around, as well as key stretches of the Trans-Pennine Trail.  The club's regular meeting place is in Birdwell Community Centre, at the end of on Rockingham Street, which leads directly off the A61 as it passes through Birdwell. (Map) Our meetings take place in a room to the left of the Centre, from 8.30 pm onwards on most Fridays.

Why not come and say hello?
